Research activities connected to the ACHILLES ecosystem were recently showcased at the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) conference in Singapore, highlighting ongoing European efforts in AI governance, auditing and trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
During the “Bridge of AI Law” session, researchers from Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS presented key outcomes from the MARTA project, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), focusing on AI auditing practices within Public Administration. The work explored how public-sector organisations can assess and monitor AI systems in line with transparency, accountability and compliance requirements.
The presentation also included a demonstration of CLARA, an automated AI Act risk-classification tool developed through collaborative work involving legal and technical experts. The solution supports the assessment of AI systems according to emerging European regulatory requirements and reflects the growing importance of practical tools for AI compliance and governance.
In addition, research on improving explainability in time-series analysis through concept-based approaches was presented as part of ongoing work that will continue within the ACHILLES project.
These activities reinforce ACHILLES’ commitment to advancing trustworthy, explainable and regulation-ready AI systems, while contributing to international discussions on Responsible AI and the implementation of the European AI Act.
